What Does an Air Conditioning/Heating Technician Do?

Work in the field, not at a desk

Technicians spend the majority of their day in the field visiting one or more customer facilities to provide much-needed service and repairs. Many HVACR service technicians get their daily assignments by phone, email or their company’s website. As such, technicians are very independent and have to be self-motivated.

Different challenges every day

A technician may perform everything from routine maintenance and cleaning to a heating system to providing emergency repairs to get a refrigeration system quickly back in operation. Some technicians will be assigned to work at one location for the duration of the day; other times they will move between locations as work is completed.

Employers often provide service vans, tools, computers and uniforms to technicians as part of their employment.

Simply put, no two days will be the same and you won’t spend any time sitting at a desk.
