Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVACR) Technician Attributes

What type of person makes a great HVACR service technician? First, he or she must be good with their hands, much like a car mechanic or other skilled tradesperson. Second, as the equipment and systems embrace new technologies, technicians must be able think critically to solve intricate problems and be ready for a lifetime of learning and skill development.

Today’s technicians are using sophisticated testing and repair tools, and should have a strong computer aptitude as many HVACR systems are controlled by a computer. Other skills needed are math fundamentals, a keen eye for safety concerns and good customer service and communication skills.
