Air Conditioning and Heating Technician Career Paths
At the end of their five-year training, technicians are eligible to become a UA STAR certified technician. By attaining UA STAR certification, the technician can claim one of the industry’s most prestigious individual achievements and become more attractive to employers (and in some cases, earn more).
Over time, technicians may amass experience with a specific type of equipment or part of the HVACR system to become a specialist. Much like a medical doctor who specializes in one aspect of medicine, HVACR service technician specialists are even more in demand and can expect to be higher paid.
But that’s not the only path. Young technicians who do not want to go though the five-year training program can work for the contractor as a tradesman or in some other aspect of the business, such as sales, service management, dispatching or instruction.
